Okinawa Peace Memorial Park ・Cornerstone of Peace(Sightseeing duration about 60 minutes)

In order to convey "the wishful heart of peace" of Okinawa to the world, in 1995 prayers were offered at Mabuni Hill commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the battle of Okinawa. Monumental stones with all the victims names engraved, without making any distinction among nationalities, soldiers or civilians, but including all the people who died during the war in Okinawa. However, it is not limited to those who died in Okinawa only, but dedicated to all those who have died in war.

Himeyuri Memorial Monument (Himeyuri Peace Museum Optional) Yubido Restaurant(Lunch Venue)(Estimated time 80 minutes)

During the Battle of Okinawa in March 1945 (Showa Year 20) the Himeyuri unit was formed as a military's request and 320 High School students were assigned as special volunteer nursing unit for the Japanese at the Army Hospital in Haebaru. They continued their nursing activities in a narrow cave where the ground was soaked, 17~18 year old students were working under very difficult circumstances, hungry and exhausted, caring for the injured soldiers in the cave. As the troops went south, casualties amongst them began to happen. The cave nearby was surrounded by enemy troops at the place where there was a Third Surgical Unit and it was impossible to go out even one step. About 200 people were killed by suicide and the poisonous gas attack of the US military. Himeyuri Memorial Monument enshrines together 211 female students and 16 staff members that lost their life, consoling the spirits of the dead.
